Large, heavy, sturdy book, quality dark blue textured cloth, very bright gilt lettering on spine, maps of 1784 and 1947 in shades of purple and white inside covers and adjacent end papers, 288 stiff crisp pages, profusely illustrated, most in color, many full-page. DJ glossy with reddish-orange background, a color-illustration of meeting near elephant of British and Indians with flags and flowers around title and author's name on front, praise on white center back with a design from Bernard Rossiter in Washington Post, The Statesman (Calcutta), the Hindustan Standard. DJ has light surface wear at top back edge near tip and near spine. Near Fine DJ/Very Fine book.
