London: William Jackson Books, 1929. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket As Issued. John Austen (1886-1948).
The Infernal Marriage is the eighth novel written by Benjamin Disraeli who would later become Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Printed at the Curwen Press. Limited edition hand signed by the artist #6 of 850. Hand-colored frontispiece in the pochoir style; plus 4 of the plates.

Quarter blue morocco over beige cloth boards, gilt-lettered spine; top edge gilt. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear, with spine sun-toned a lovely brown and boards with hand soiling. 4to; 85 pages followed by bibliography of books with illustrations by John Austen [16 plates and chapter headers.]. The novelist William Beckford appreciated the novel conveying the message to its author via a friend, 'Pray tell Disraeli that I have read, enjoyed, and admired his Infernal Marriage. The sly, dry humour of that most original composition is to me delightful.'

The artist, John Austen, a British book illustrator, was influenced by the Art Deco movement.

San Francisco: Book Club of California;, 2012. Hardcover. Fine. PAUL FRENZENY. . One of only 425 printed Fine. Artist Paul Frenzeny, a Frenchman of noble descent, strict military training, and encyclopedic knowledge, became one of the leading "special correspondents" in the United States and Europe in the days when woodcuts, rather than photographs, were used to illustrate newspapers. In 1873, Frenzeny undertook a year-long sketching tour of the frontier for Harper's Weekly, with fellow artist Jules Tavernier. This 100-sketch assignment proved to be an irresistible subject for author Claudine Chalmers, who then followed the Frenchmen's careers after their journey's end on the Pacific Coast. As she patiently gathered Frenzeny's subsequent illustrations in the Weekly, Dr. Chalmers discovered that he had depicted San Francisco's Chinese culture in all its pageantry and intensity, at a time when most of the white population, within California and across the country, reviled the pioneering Chinese… Read More

Jacket lightly rubbed with a single one inch tear to front bottom edge. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. xiii + 347 pages. Over 300 illustrations. Heavy book: extra charges for expedited or international shipping. Captain Nicolas Baudin's early 19th-century voyage of scientific discovery to Australia is a little-known event in French and Australian history. Yet that voyage played an important part in the history of Australian and Pacific colonization, and in the long story of worldwide scientific exploration. Departing Le Havre in 1800, Baudin's expedition comprised two ships--the Naturaliste and the Géographe--and 238 men, including 22 scientists.
