Octavo in original publisher's blue boards with gilt title and credits to spine, 396 pages including index, black & white frontispiece photographic plate and an additional 22 pages of photographs. Dustjacket creased and slightly soiled, some shelfwear or insect nibbles to lower edges of boards, top edge lightly spotted. The first volume of a projected autobiography that deals with Winn's appearance as a boy actor in Dame Sybil Thorndyke's Company, the birth of his career as novelist; includes what is regarded as one of the most authentic portraits of his literary mentor Somerset Maugham.
