This is a three-volume reprint of a work originally published in 1887, a complete history of the Inquisition in the period prior to the Reformation; the author contends that the Inquisition was a natural, perhaps inevitable, evolution of the forces at work in the 13th century, and so has included a review of nearly all the spiritual and intellectual movements and some of the social conditions of the Middle Ages; Book I: Origin and Organization of the Inquisition; Book II: The Inquisition in the Several Lands of Christiandom; Book III: Special Fields of Inquisitorial Activity; tan cloth with bright red lettering, pages very lightly tanned, gift inscription on front endpaper of first volume; otherwise these are good, clean, tight copies (shipping other than media mail may require extra cost)
