About This Item

Alger, Adilphe Jourdan [Société historique Algérienne], 1909. Large 8vo (28.2 x 22.0 cm). 113 pp., 67 text figures. Original printed front wrapper. = A very rare treatise by the French-Algerian naturalist Paul Pallary (1869-1942) who was an important malacologist and shell-dealer in Northern Africa. He also expressed a keen interest in archaeology. "In 1892, in collaboration with the naturalist and prehistorian François Doumergue, he discovered several Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites located in the Orania region, notably the caves at Cuartel and Kouchet El Djir and the quarries of Eckmühl, known as the Alain shelter. Human traces estimated at 100,000 years were found in these caves ... Numerous archaeological artefacts were collected. Some are deposited in the Ahmed Zabana Museum.” (Wikipedia). Includes a large bibliography of 12 pages. Uncut, with very wide margins. Front wrapper and last text leaves chipped and frayed at edges, front free endpaper with a large tear, rear wrapper lacking, otherwise good, without library markings.
