Yellow-green cloth with dark green Celtic knot design on front cover and spine; gilt-stamped spine title and decoration. Lacking dust jacket. Top page edges gilt. Green endpapers. First edition, first printing with "were" for "was" on p. 442, line 5. Dedicated to Shaw's sister-in-law, Mary Stewart Cholmondely [sic Cholmondeley], "the intelligent woman to whose question this book is the best answer I can make." In Near Fine- Condition: corners and spine ends lightly rubbed; slightly cocked; clean and tight.
