Twelve contestants vied for this international tournament. Vassily Smyslov and Ratmir Kholmov both representing Russia shared first place with a score of 8.5/11. Viktor Korchnoi of Switzerland was banging on the door with 8. A distant fourth was Vladimir Bagirov with 6.5 followed closely by Vladimir S Antoshin. Lev Polugaevsky was sixth with five points. Gyorgy Szilagyi was clear seventh. A three way tie occurred for eight with Vladimir Simagin, Wolfgang Uhlmann and Vlastimil Hort.
