First and only edition of the complete 3 volume collection of very extensive descriptions of the private sailing vessels of the Portuguese king Miguel I, all in Portuguese. The author, "engenheiro constructor" of the royal fleet Manuel Luis dos Santos, was responsible for the construction of the king's ships. He divided the present descriptions in 3 parts.

Volume one is by far the most extensive of the three, it describes in meticulous detail the technical construction and all apparatus of the Royal yacht, the flagship of the king's fleet. This brand new ship was finished in 1832, the year of the present publication. Volume two treats the composition of historical-mythological allegories of the bas-relief that adorned the outside of the new royal yacht and the paintings on the inside walls. The third volume provides a history of the royal vessels and the current existing ships of the king of Portugal and the position that the new royal yacht takes in that context. A rare work that is only recorded in Portuguese libraries.

Condition: Ex-Libris of Admiral João Correia, Chief of the Naval General Staff on back of front cover, small shelve mark on front cover. Minor spotting on the first title-page, otherwise in very good condition.
