About This Item
Moscow: E. Lissner and Y. Roman, 1877. First edition. 23.5 x 16.5 cm. Issue (part) one: 189 pages; issue (part) two: 178 pages. Text in Russian. The spine is damaged; foxing throughout.

This book provides a unique perspective on the life of Russian Emperor Nicholas I, as it was the first biography of him to be written in Russian. The author, Paul Lacroix, was a renowned bibliophile from France who received a pension from Russia for writing this work. Although the book was never completed, V.I. Mezhov notes that three issues of the first volume were published. However, there is no further information regarding the existence of a third issue. Despite its scarcity in trade, this book can be found in several institutions, with only having two issues of the first volume.
