London: Frederick Muller Limited, 1976. Octavo. xvi, 192pp. Frontispiece photographic portrait of Mason, taken in 1925. Reproductions of typographic and manuscript work scattered throughout the text. A rather authoritative and comprehensive biography of J. H. Mason, printer and instructor eminent during the rise of private presses in England and Europe generally, with due descriptions both of his artistic vision and his professional and social connections to the likes of Emery Walker and T. J. Cobden-Sanderson. Bound in full blue cloth, slightly toned at edges else near fine, with a very good, price-clipped dust wrapper. Together with a proof copy of the edition, bound in wrappers showing some shelfwear and toning, else very good.
