A popular example of the "slice of life" books with boy heroes that enjoyed a growing success on the American market in the late 19th century, the most famous example of which being Twain's TOM SAWYER and HUCKLEBERRY FINN. While Twain's books take place in rural Missouri, JACK HALL explores adventures in the city life of Boston. 7.25'' x 4.75''. Original green pictorial cloth stamped in black with numerous vignettes of a boy's life, gilt lettering. Yellow endpapers. Illustrated by Attwood with full-page and in-text black-and-white images. vi, 394 pages. Rear hinge expertly repaired, front hinge cracked but firm. Faint toning to spine and a bit of just visible soiling to front board, else a fresh, bright copy.
