387 pages with frontispiece portrait and index. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's brown cloth with dark brown lettering to spine and cover in original pictorial jacket. Merely as a story of action and adventure, this book makes magnificent reading. As a study of a strange and tortured personality, written with amazing detachment and deep understanding, this biography is one of the really important books on London. For it is not only that very rare achievements, a biography which gives the reader an intimate understanding of the mind and character of a man of genius, it is also a clear picture of the times which were the crucible of his career. Condition: Corners and edges bumped. Jacket edge wear with chips and closed tears, spine ends and corners chipped, hinge taped repaired else a good copy.
