The 1950s were bxing's last great hey-day. Never again would the sport be so glamorous aor so popular. And that's where New York's Mob came in. Most of the decade's major fights took mplace at Madison Square Garden and most of the deals that made or ruined the lives of many of the fine fighetrs of the time were made at a strip of pavement across the street from the Garden nicknamed Jacobs Beach. And the man ruling that strip of pavement was a charming Italian murderer called Frankie Carbo.
