About This Item
unbound. Etching with hand coloring. Signed in pencil at lower right. Image measures 4 x 6". Folded sheet measures 6.5 x 10". Inscribed inside with orange pencil 'Alberta from Jack' likely the artists' hand.<br/> <br/> This appealing original print by New York artist Clara Tice features a black panther or jaguar and a jaguar cub. Made in 1921, the image features a black panther on a tree branch reaching for its spotted cub. Tice has depicts the pair beautifully with the only color appearing on the coat of the cub and the tongue of the adult. The print is in very good condition with no chips and tears. Textured edges from original thick paper, folded in half. Some toning, staining along edge and pin holes. Signed by artist in pencil. Clara Tice (1888-1973) was an American illustrator and artist who lived in Greenwich Village during a time of avant-garde artistic activity. Although somewhat well-known for her erotic drawings and prints of nudes, as well as her bohemian lifestyle, she remains relatively obscure within art history more generally. This image from her mother and baby series from later in her life speak to her personal passion for animals. Her book "ABC Dogs" was likely inspired by the many dogs she owned and cared for throughout her lifetime. This delightful print provides insight into the artist's personality.<br/> <br/>
