The "Original Edition with a continuation of the Journal in New York and Paris, a preface, appendices and illustrations". Preface by Arthur Griffith. Green cloth boards with embossed bars in blind to front cover and embossed title in blid to spine. Publisher's emblem embossed in blind on back cover. Frontispiece of John Mitchel. Thirty six additional illustrations. Rubbing to extremities. Fading, especially to spine and back cover. Corners are bumped. Light marginal foxing on a few dozen pages. Text is bright; the story is fresh! Mitchel tells his tale of being an Irish patriot imprisoned and taken to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) during the Irish famine in the late 1840's, and then escaping to freedom in America.
