G-VG/No Jacket. 13.5 Cm x 21 Cm. f/piece portrait with tissue guard+xii+354+(2, pub.list); front endpaper has 1916-dated donation inscription to the Tunbridge Wells Meeting House Library,above a later address stamp of the Society of Friends in Tunbridge Wells, some incipient internal gutter opening which needs attention otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked, top edge has some ingrained dust marking, covers generally clean and minimally worn but spine faded to brown and has faint light round lib.label ghost. A member of the famous Quaker Tuke family of York, who were much involved with the mentally ill and psychiatry from late 1700s through most of 19th century, James was a banker/philanthropist and devout Quaker much involved will trying to alleviate distress in Ireland in the wake of the Great Famine.
