Full leather binding prize binding with a gilt vignette of Wesley College Melbourne stamped on the front board, backstrip discoloured and torn with loss, worn particularly at head and tail, title still legible, marbled edges and endpapers, edges little browned, inner hinge re-enforced with archival paper. Contents very clean and sound. 6th edition revised to date, with new illustrations, a map and supplemantary chapters. A general history of Japan through to the early years of the twentieth century. With a supplementary chapter by Joseph H. Longford. Includes a chapter on the Ainu. .
