New York: Henry Holt, 1911. First U.S. edition of the middle section of Rolland's 10-volume novel, comprising the fifth through seventh. The series follows the life of a musician forced to leave his native Germany and move to France. Rolland was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1915. Bumped and rubbed, spine slightly darkened with the gilt print faded. Small damp stain to the lower rear board near the spine, not affecting the text block. Binding square, hinges a bit loose.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket.
