About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1924. Hardcover. Illustrations by Arthur G. Dove. Small 8vo. Green cloth with black lettering, rules and pictorial stamping, pictorial dust jacket. viii, 253pp. Frontispiece, 3 full-page called-for plates. Very good/good plus. Jacket edgeworn and age toned, with a few archivally-closed (on verso) edge tears, several small chips at extremities and single large chip at spine tail. Tight, quite nice first edition of this young adult yarn set on the Mississippi and reminiscent of Huck and Tom. Notes front jacket flap, "The gang still lives in Riverbank, and the boys play in and about the Mississippi...." -- sequel to his popular 1923 "Jibby Jones: A Story of Mississippi River Adventure for Boys." Riverbank is a thinly-veiled Muscatine, Iowa -- Butler's hometown, where this copy resided for the past century!
