Uncommon 1920s American Struwwelpeter, with English verses modeled after Hoffmann's righteous moral vignettes of merciless Justice visited upon careless and vicious children and additional embellishments on the theme of cruelty to animals. Contains the following verse titles: Jimmy Sliderlegs, Slovenly Peter, Cruel Frederick, The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb, The Story of Fidgety Philip, The Story of Flying Robert, Little Jacob, Frank the Liar, Tom the Thief, Paul the Tormentor, Simple Hans, Idle Fritz, Heedless Hugo, Ned the Toy-Breaker, and Prying Will. An appealing edition of these cautionary tales. 5.5'' x 4.25''. Original quarter red cloth with pictorial boards. Color paste-on mounted to front board. 127, [1] pages. Color frontispiece and bright color illustrations facing each page of text, "from the Original Designs by Walter Hayn." Light sunning and soil to boards and spine.
