Good. <p>First edition.<p>Einaudi Letteratura 48.<p>Poet, artist and translator Jirí Kolar [1914-2002] was a significant artistic and cultural figure in the Czech Republic. He saw firsthand and was influenced by many of the momentous changes that occurred in Europe during the 20th century. Between the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 and the division of the Czech and Slovak Republics in 1993, Eastern Europe had experienced two World Wars and the oppressive stranglehold of the Eastern Bloc. Although often whimsical, his work contains strong political undertones.<p>The introductory essay by Angelo Maria Ripellino is in Italian.
