About This Item
London: E. Gambart and Co, 1856. 1/4 leather. Very Good. J.M.W. Turner. A lovely copy of the 1856 1st edition, bound in publisher's half-leather over olive-green boards. Gilt-lettered and bordered leather title label affixed to the front panel. 5 raised bands, detailed gilt-tooling within each compartment. Tight and VG, with very light scuffing to the panels and light wear along the outer hinges and at the spine base. Very interesting bookplate ("Frank Cyril Tiarks") to the front pastedown. The 12 magnificent engravings (executed by Thomas Lupton) are in pristine condition and each is accompanied by its original tissue-guard. Folio, all edges gilt.
