About This Item
Tight, square spine. Clean, unmarked interior. A bumped corner, but very little wear to the book overall. Jacket has some edge-wear and areas of light rubbing. Jacket design by Kenneth R. Deardoff. Photos by George Connolly. Includes an intro by theater critic John Lahr, who was the the son of a Ziegfeld girl and Cowardly Lion actor Bert Lahr (In addition to extensive biographizing of Tennessee Williams, the critic penned a New Yorker article about his mother, Millie Schroeder, and a book about his father). Lahr co-produced Prick Up Your Ears, a movie adaptation of his 1978 book recounting Orton's antic-filled but profoundly doomed relationship with Kenneth Halliwell (Wallace Shawn plays Lahr in the film). After the couple's murder-suicide, Orton and Halliwell, whose vandalized library book covers are held at London's Islington Museum, were both cremated and their ashes mixed and scattered in an unmarked corner of the gardens at Golders Green Mausoleum. 354 pp.
