Johannes & Gerard Van Keulen Atlas 1728 - 1969/70 Facsimile - 3 Complete Volumes Title: De Niewe Groote Ligtende Zee-Fakkel Amsterdam 1716-1753 Publisher: Theatrum Orbis Terrarum Ltd. O.Z. Voorburgwal 85 Amsterdam 6 Parts in 3 Volumes (1-V1) Maps in B/W with some in Colour. Facsimile reprint of the edition Amst., 1716-1753, published in a limited edition of 500 numbered copies. Johannis Van Keulen (1654 1715) - Van Keulen published numerous atlases and nautical charts, including the Zee Atlas and Nieuwe Lichtende Zee-Fakkel. This later work, the Zee-Fakkel, often called the 'Secret Atlas' as it was restricted to pilots associated with the Dutch East India Company or VOC. In 1714, one year before Johannis Van Keulen death, his son, Gerard van Keulen (1678 - 1726), took charge. Gerard continued to update and republish the Zee-Fakkel until his own death in 1726. Condition: Gilt tooled and raised imitation calf (Rexine) bindings - Boards in very good - slight loss to spine ends and some small splits at ends where spine joins the boards - text blocks are all firm, clean and bright - the volumes appear to have been unread and the folding maps appear to have not been opened - the limited edition number has been carefully cut from the title page by a former owner?, so it could be any Limited number from 6-500. Dimensions: 1. 21 1/2"high x 13" wide x 2 3/4" thick 2. " " x 2" thick 3. " " x 2 1/4" thick A complete set of these beautiful 1969/70 facsimile atlases with numerous sea charts which would be an addition to any collection. The three volumes have a combined weight of nearly 20KG and will be delivered via courier, so a contact phone number will be required for delivery.
