Lexington, Kentucky: University of Kentucky Press, (1956). hardcover. Very good/fair. Brown cloth covers, octavo, xiv + 130 pages. Folding map in pocket at rear of book. Four black and white illustrations. Light wear at cover corners; top cover slightly sprung, still Very Good. Dust jacket chipped with long closed tear on front, sunned at spine, only fair. "Filson's 'The Discovery, Settlement and Present State of Kentucke' published in 1784, became a frontier classic because of the stimulus it provided the great tide of immigration flowing westward through the Appalachian valleys." Filson also contributed to the legend of Daniel Boone, and was also an early cartographer of Kentucky-the map in the book is a replica of Filson's map. 092717A
