Octavo; pp; xiii, (i), 331, (i), index, ad; illustrated with a frontispiece portrait and twenty-three additional black and white plates from photographs; gilt decorated and lettered red cloth, top edge, gilt, mostly uncut;. The biography of John Harvard (1607-38), English-born Puritan minister who moved to Massachusetts in 1637. Harvard University was established in 1639 and after the minister bequeathed in his will a sizeable amount and over 300 books to the university, the school was named after him.
