New York: Gotham Book Mart, nd [1978]. Paperback. First American edition. Near Fine paperback with a strip of fading along the front fore edge of the cover, otherwise only very light shelf wear; interior fine. SHIPS THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING AND CARDBOARD. "This very rare pamphlet, published anonymously by Aldous Huxley at Christmas, 1917, in a very small number of copies, is reproduced here for the first time in exact facsimile, in an edition limited to 150 bound copies." First published when Huxley was 23, Jonah contains 12 poems (some in French) and is among Huxley's earliest published collections of poetic works. Contents: Jonah; Behemoth; Minoan Porcelain; Zoo Celeste; Sonnet A L'Ingenue; Dix-Huitieme Siecle; Hommage A Jules Laforgue; Sententious Song; The Oxford Volunteers; The Contemplative Soul; The Betrothal of Priapus; and Farewell to the Muses. We are aware to two versions of the cover: one has a pink title label to the front and ours has the title stamped in gilt surrounded by a gilt border. This copy was acquired from the estate of a former employee of the printer, Meriden Gravure. As we are unaware of any subsequent printings, speculation is that the book was printed with the gilt title which was deemed unsuitable by the publisher and so the labels were pasted over the copies. 28 pages total: 20 are the facsimile reprint of which 4 are blank; 5-7/8 x 8-3/4 inches.
