Very nice unsophisticated copy preserved in a modern archival clamshell box with leather spine label. Seven engraved plates, including two fold-out plans (one with brief tears, no loss) by W. H. Lizars after John Hay and eight illustrations in the text of a journey by prominent Scottish gardeners and horticulturalists to regions recently under Napoleonic rule. Patrick Neill (1776-1851) was a Scottish printer and horticulturist and a founder of the Caledonian Horticulture Society. He and two other members sought to bring back fruits and vegetables which might be introduced into Scotland and documented public and private gardens including Malmaison (former residence of Empress Josephine) as well as commercial nurseries..
