Parry cut his teeth in the Spitsbergen whale fishery, then served under Ross in the Arctic. He commanded his own expedition in 1819-20, which was successful. A second expedition was sent out in 1821 to attempt the long-desired Northwest Passage again. This is the report of the results of the second voyage. "This work deals with the characteristcs of the Eskimos and is a treatise on aboriginal life as well as a narrative of scientific discoveries." - Hill 1312.
