Melbourne: Edition Renard, 2002. First published in 1790, now reprinted with 65 coloured plates reproduced at enlarged scale. Pp. 226(last colophon), printed in red & black, black & white frontispiece, 65 coloured plates, (with duplicate set of plates in black & white), bibliographical and publishing notes; demy folio; full dark green morocco over bevelled boards, the spine and upper board lettered in gilt; a.e.g.; ribbon marker; Edition Renard, Melbourne, 2002. De luxe edition with the plates in two states, being one of 50 numbered copies thus (of a total edition of 212). *White's journal, as well as giving his account of the First Fleet voyage, was the first major natural history book on Australia. The Surgeon-General to the new settlement, White was also a keen amateur naturalist, and the plates in this volume (here reproduced in colour for the first time since the deluxe, hand-coloured issue of the first edition of 1790), include numerous birds, as well as mammals, reptiles, fish, plants, and 2 plates depicting aboriginal weapons and artefacts.
