Washington, DC: Way and Gideon. Good. 1823. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. The first three of four volumes all bound in contemporary tan calf, rubbed at extremities, spines of all three volumes have extensive chipping and rubbing, red and black leather spine labels lost, except for Volume I. Contents clean and tight but for two previous owner's names - On titlepages is the signature of Raphael Neale, who was an American politician born in St. Mary's County, Maryland, and resided in Leonardtown. He was elected as a Federalist to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses, and reelected as an Adams-Clay Federalist to the Eighteenth Congress, serving from March 4, 1819 to March 3, 1825. The other owner's name on ffeps is Dr. A. J. Spalding (June 10, 1832 - September 3, 1863), a physician and a member of the Medico- Chirurgical Society of St. Mary's County, Maryland. v. 1: Sept. 5, 1774, to Dec. 31, 1776.--v. 2: Jan. 1, 1777 to July 31, 1778.-- v. 3: Aug. 1, 1778, to March 30, 1782.
