The text is illustrated with copious colour photographs, maps and the very occasional black-and-white illustration. Red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured embossed titles to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper white coloured titles to the front panel and black strip. A look at Chinese history through its artefacts and archaeology from Neolithic period through to the Ming dynasty (1600s). Each province / city is detailed by a map and what archaeological find has been unearthed. Some bumping of corners and back strip corners with dust marks to the lower edge. Very light age toning of the text block edges. Creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with some rubbing of the panels. The front fold over panel has become a little "loose".
