Longtime kitchen bible for thousands of American cooks, this vintage edition is a more scarce early one with the blue-and-white latticed covers & only Irma listed as author, though daughter Marion (who would later assume co-authorship) is credited with illustrations. Originally published in 1931, this edition is from 1946, in 884 pages including the new Preface to the 1943 Edition, which traces the history of the cookbook & upholds its important role as a "record of our American way of life." Includes adjustments to "the new order, for the cook,'' eg, sugarless & sugar-saving recipes designed to accommodate the wartime rationing of sugar & other staples. Hardcover book is in Good+ condition: exterior blue/white diamond-patterned covers are very clean, with slight rubbing, heavy to extremities. Tearing at head of spine with some fraying of the cloth at both ends. Half title page is torn & bottom half is missing. Else, the binding is strong & straight & both hinges are intact. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning, heavier around edges, but completely unmarked; occasional spot of soil/food from previous cooks. A solid, clean vintage copy! No DJ.
