Fragmentary original wraps. The copy of General John Watts de Peyster, who is mentioned in "To the Reader" XLib . This is a response to a work by Scott Frederick Surtees (1814-1889) dealing with Julius Caesar and the Invasion of Britain, 55 B.C. It is very scarce. ohn Watts de Peyster, Sr. (1821-1907), was an author on the art of war, philanthropist, and early Adjutant General of the New York National Guard. He served in the New York State Militia during the Mexican-American War and American Civil War. He was one of the first American military critics and noted for his histories of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and also published works of drama, poetry, military history, and military biography.
