1949. Book. Fine. No Binding. Art Fine (as new)/Frame Fine (our Top grade). Original Art, Oil on Board. Original Art, Framed. [c.1949]. Image Size: 11 1/4 x 14 inches. Frame size: 15 1/4 x 18 inches. In a gilt frame with dead. Depicts Jupiter's surface with hydrogen flames and "lava" pouring out of the top of a cliff, with a "lake" below of liquid ammonia. Bonestell would often do a smalller, fully realized painting of his subject, then, if he liked it, he would follow up with a larger version that he would sign. This is the first, smaller, unsigned version of the work. For a look at the larger signed version see: THE ART OF CHESLEY BONESTELL by Miller & Durant, p. 153, which was used as an illustration for the book, CONQUEST OF SPACE. Fine (our highest grade)..
