An uncommon item. (ESTC T63954). Practice of the Chester Circuit is broken down into 4 parts: Style of the Court. Pleas of the Crown. Proceedings in Civil Actions and Proceedings in Equity. Abbot, first Baron Colchester, speaker of the House of Commons, whose speakership had been distinguished by an unflagging determination to improve administrative functioning through rational reform. He had also ensured that his researches into the history of parliamentary procedure were carefully collated, preserved, and handed on to posterity through the medium of John Hatsell's revised Precedents of Procedure (1818). Abbot was the first speaker since Arthur Onslow to apply systematic analysis to the functioning of the chair, and his successors were greatly indebted to him. See ODNB.
