About This Item
Evanston, Illinois: Northwestern University Press, 1997. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Fine. Signed by Imre Kertesz on the title page. A middle-aged writer and Holocaust survivor explains to a friend why he cannot bring a child into a world that allows such horrors as the Holocaust. This is the third novel in a trilogy inspired in part by the author's experiences as a young Hungarian Jew in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. Kertesz (1929-2016) was awarded the 2002 Nobel Prize in Literature "for writing that upholds the fragile experience of the individual against the barbaric arbitrariness of history." Octavo. Original blue paper-covered boards over a black cloth spine, with gilt titles. The publisher's press release is laid in. Some light foxing to the top edge; else fine in a fine dust jacket.
