About This Item

The Introduction to this book reads: "Kaethe Kollwitz died in 1945 at the age of 78. Great as an artist, as well as a woman, she depicted with maternal sympathy and compelling master the tragedies and sufferings of the common people. Her work carries a tremendous emotional impact, and places her among the foremost graphic artists of our time. "

"The Book is the first comprehensive monograph in English on the life and work of Kaethe Kollwitz. It is furthermore the only work which reproduces her four famous print cycles in their complete form. Carl Zigrosser is curator of prints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He is also author of "Fine Prints Old and New," "Six Centuries of Prints" and "The artist in America."

Condition: Very Good. No Dustjacket. Inner cover has inscription from prior owner. Inner pages unmarked. No folds, stains or creases on any pages. Binding is tight. Edges show minor wear. The front cover is prettier than it shows on the scanned image. Kaethe Kollwitz's name is reproduced in a silvery embossed style. Very nice.

I am listing this as a first printing, 1951. From doing research on this book, the first edition was 1946. On this book, there are no previous printings or dates shown.Measures 12-1/4" x 9-1/4" approx.

If you are collector of Kollwitz prints, this book would be a wonderful addition to your collection. The prints/plates within the book are beautiful and in great condition.

I ship promptly in 1-2 business days and pack carefully. Will ship via media mail. Thank you for looking at this beautiful and special book.
