With over 40 illustrations from photographs on glossy plates. 8vo, publisher's original green cloth lettered in gilt on the spine. 464 pp. A very good and attractive copy, the cloth just lightly age mellowed and the text with only light and occasional evidence of the usual spotting due to paper content. THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS PERSONAL ACCOUNT, of the attempt to climb Kangchenjunga (28,156 feet) and the successful ascent of the Jonsong Peak (24,344 feet) in 1930. Smythe was not only a superb mountaineer but was also an excellent writer, making his making his many books on mountaineering the best for reading. On the Kangchenjunga Expedition Smythe was one of three representing Great Britain of a party made up of British, Swiss, German, and Austrian climbers.
