Volume I provides historical information about Kansas City, including early pioneers, the city as it developed, terminus for the Santa Fe Trail, the Civil War period, public utilities, railroads, banking and finance, education, newspapers, churches, legal and medical facilities, river transportation, parks, art movements, women's clubs social life, etc. Portraits of Father de Smet, Jim Bridger, Colonel Alexander W. Doniphan, Josiah Gregg, and others. Volume II and III provide biographical sketches and photographs of prominent settlers and citizens of Kansas City. Handsome set.
