About This Item

New York: Curtis Books. Near Fine. (c.1973). First Edition. Softcover. [nice tight clean copy with only minor wear at edges and corners, slight soft diagonal creasing at bottom corner of rear cover]. (The Curtis Film Series) Series Mass Market PB (B&W photographs) Paperback original, one of the best entries in the "Curtis Film Series," of which Leonard Maltin was the general editor.. About 80% of this 352- page book is devoted to an excruciatingly detailed Karloffilmography (as Forrest J Ackerman might have called it), including full credits/cast, a plot synopsis, a representative review, and a brief commentary by the author on every film in which Karloff appeared -- from his appearance as an extra in a crowd in HIS MAJESTY THE AMERICAN (1919) through the films for which he is best remembered -- FRANKENSTEIN, THE BLACK CAT, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, BEDLAM, THE BODY SNATCHER, etc. -- to the numerous second-rate (and third-rate) potboilers to which he was often relegated due to his typecasting as a "horror film star." There also are short lists at the back of the book of his writings, recordings, and "non-films" (various films which were announced over the years but never made). .
