Charlemagne was one of the most influential and iconic French kings. Reigning in the late 8th-century, Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, helped united most of Europe through the Carolingian Empire. Numerous historical works were published on the life and reign of Charlemagne including this early 17th-century history of the reigns of Charlemagne and his son Louis the Pious. This book is one of the best of its kind offering a complete survey of the 9th-century Franks. Published in 1603 by Chappell, it covers the Frankish monastic reforms set by Saint Ansegisus and the continuation of these laws by the unnamed pseudo-author known as Benedict Levita.
