His works reflect the poignant sensitivity of the Taisho [1912-1926] and Showa [1926-1989] eras. He often traveled alone drawing and sketching, later returning to his Tokyo studio to make these renderings into woodcut prints, most of which were published by Watanabe, the premier house which had Japan's best carvers and woodcut printers. .
