For Kay is not merely a stick-waver. He is just as much an entertainment personality as is Jack Benny, Carole Lombard, or Fred Astaire. The secret of Kay's musical success is his showmanship. The grinning, bespectacled maestro, with the pleasing Carolina drawl, deplored the general practice of bandleaders who stood woodenly before their orchestras and who acted merely as co-ordinators for the different sections of the band. He injected into his own aggregation a bit of the Kay Kyser personality. He announces his own programs, sings occasional novelty choruses, heckles dancers and musicians alike, and in general sees that everybody has a good time. His "College of Musical Knowledge" has become a national institution, like Spin the Bottle and Santa Claus. This book offers what might be termed the "Cavalcade of Kay Kyser." In the pages to follow we salute this likeable, laughable "Professor" by presenting some of his favorite songs - and, we believe, YOUR favorites, too - we introduce you to his merry, musical associates: to Ginny Simms, and Harry Babbitt, and Sully Mason, and Ish Kabibble - the whole gang of Kay Kyser funsters. We hope you will get as much fun out of reading the album as we had in compiling it.
