This is a sixth (May) impression of the March 1928 first edition, and should be thought of as a reading copy only. The interior of the book is clean and complete, but the paper has tanned, there is foxing on all three edges of the text block, and there is an ownership sticker from a private lending library on the front free end paper. The navy covers are clean, with moderate edge wear. The dust jacket seems in very good condition, again with moderate edge wear overall, but a darkened and more heavily worn spine. The attached scan shows the jacket in more detail. The jacket is now in protective mylar. Synopsis: "The novel deals largely with the efforts made by a young lady to make a good impression on here world, and particularly on the young man to whom she was attached. This involved her in many embarrassments, difficulties and deceits, both conscious and unconscious. She represents in excess what is a common element in human psychology -- the inclination to adapt oneself to one's company and to live a private and secret life that differs, whether much or little, from the life shown to others.
