About This Item

London: Kelly's Directories, 1907. Hardback. Good Plus. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth with gilt crest to upper board. 27 × 17.5cm. xviii + 319pp, 68pp ads. A fascinating summary of Buckinghamshire in the first decade of the twentieth century. The directory begins with a brief account of the county, its officials, and geology followed by an alphabetical gazetteer of the towns, cities and villages from Ackhampstead to Wyrardisbury. Then comes the private residents directory (an alphabetical listing of the notable residents), and then the trades directory from Abyssinian Tube Wells engineers to yeast merchants. The book closes with 68 pages of advertisements, some for the county and surrounding area's businesses. The large fold-out map is present. Condition: This copy is in good condition for age. The red cloth is a little rubbed to the edges and faded to the spine, with reference label to spine. The contents are in good order and in strong readable condition. Previous owner's bookplate to ffep (W Harry Rylands). The map is torn (and with previous repair) where bound in but on the whole is still usable and attractive. An important resource for researchers and genealogists. **PLEASE NOTE: As this is a heavy book, postage may have to be increased for overseas (non-UK) buyers, or decreased where appropriate. Please see the COX AND BUDGE BOOKS website for full shipping details or drop us an email**
