Madison, Wisconsin: University of Wisconsin Press, 1958. No dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends and corners of gray boards, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. Deals with the Kensington Rune Stone, discovered near the village of that name in Minnesota in 1898, bearing an inscription in runes referring to an expedition by Norsemen in the fourteenth century. Once thought genuine by some authorities, but not now. Signed by the author on page facing title page "To Professor Brian W Downs with cordial greetings from Drake's Californa, Erik Wahlgren", and a later owner's gift message dated 1963 on same page. Brian Downs was professor of Scandinavian Studies at Christ's College, Cambridge. 228pp, 30 b&w illustrations, endpaper illustration of the stone and inscription.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
