About This Item
Kenya, Mukamata Region: uncredited, 2018. No Binding. New. New. See image and description. Kenyan Hand-Woven Grass Saucer Trivet, Mukamama Region. 10" Diameter. Teal, buff and cream colors in the case of this piece are dyed by the Kenyan artists who require 2 or 3 days of manual labor for a piece such as this. In this process, natural sisal fibers are dyed, then woven over a core of forest grass. Historically, such "saucer trivets" were used by the Kenyans themselves to protect a sensitive surface from the heat of medium size hot cookware. Here, though one could do that, such an artwork is better suited as a wall-hanging, shelf display, or a jewelry holder. Don't submerge this artwork, nor wash with it water; a damp cloth is all that should be used, if cleaning becomes necessary. Try to find another one of these... Ships in a sturdy box, of course. LUns
