The covers are lightly bumped & the head & tail of the spine are rubbed. xvii, 177 & [1] pp. & 16-page publisher's catalogue. B&W portrait frontispiece & 11 B&W plates. The book is cracked at page 38; the endpapers are darkened; there is scattered light foxing & soiling; 1 plate is detached with the front edge roughed. Good. <p>First American edition.<p>In view of the projected acquistion of the southeast African port of Delagoa Bay by Great Britain, the author sets out to give an account of its history, trade, inhabitants, flora and fauna, its harbour, its town of Lourenco Marques and the Delagoa Bay railway, stressing the strategic importance of the port for Britain.
