Cassell & Company Ltd. Hardcover. very good. viii,311pp,16pp. 12mo. Original green cloth on board, and gilt on spine. Gently bowed corners, slightly frayed. Edgeworn on cover tails. Crown and foot shelfwear bent, and slight rubbing to the gilt headbands. Spine cokced. Previous bookseller label (20MM X 15mm) on lower-right front endpaper. Sketched map with some colour with some foxing attached to half-title page. Browning on edges of paper, and very light sporadic foxing throughout. 16 page publisher's catalogue the rear including magazine reviews for "Treasure Island". The sequel to "Treasure Island", "Kidnapped" is presented as the semi-autobiographical adventures of David Balfour, an orphan of sixteen, who after being kidnapped by his uncle, escapes and becomes involved in the conflicts of the Scottish highlanders against English rule. A historical fiction set in the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745, is loosely based around real characters and events. The contemporary political situation of the period is characterized from different viewpoints, and sympathizes with the Scottish Highlanders.
